Biographical Info

Shea Rose has possessed numerous titles over the course of her career: singer, songwriter, music curator, and music for social change activist are just a few. Her music is influenced by R&B, soul, hip-hop, rock, and folk. Her 2017 D.T.M.A. (Dance This Mess Around) EP describes her personal and creative evolution through receiving an offer from a major record label and turning it down, discovering and defining her own identity as an artist. D.T.M.A. is Rose’s third album, following the 2011 Little Warrior mixtape and the 2010 Rock ‘n Rose EP. Later in 2017, Rose released the music video for her cover of Sinead O’Connor’s “Black Boys On Mopeds,” a powerful reflection on the tragedies and fears facing today’s society. Rose is a featured songwriter and performer on two Grammy award-winning jazz albums—The Mosaic Project (2011) and Money Jungle: Provocative in Blue (2012), both produced by legendary drummer Terri Lyne Carrington—and was chosen as a speaker for TEDx Beacon Street in the fall of 2014. In addition to performing and writing, Rose is a professor in the Contemporary Writing and Production department at Berklee College of Music.
