Mentoring and Inclusion
As the creator of the Over My Shoulder Foundation, Dawn Carroll is leading the way in what she calls “mentorology”. Her organization is a unique media based project on a mission to raise awareness about the lifelong affects of being mentored. And the truth is, Dawn has benefited greatly from her own mentoring relationship with Grammy winner Patti Austin. An award winning designer, writer and songwriter, Dawn wrote Over My Shoulder and presented it to Patti, who performed it with her latest mentee, a gifted singer now living her dream in Los Angeles. Their inspiring performance was broadcast live in 127 countries, spreading the word that mentoring really can turn hopelessness into hope. Dawn and Patti have joined forces to spread their message worldwide. Says Dawn: “we believe that mentoring can be a remedy. The Over My Shoulder Foundation (OMSF) has launched an effort to make Boston the Mentoring Hub of the United States and BWME is honored to be a part of the movement.
Before Dawn was making her impact on the East Coast, she worked with a small independent film company called Sheen Productions in Los Angeles that developed, produced and enjoyed the fabulous delivery & International and domestic release of the 3 NINJA franchise which was the most profitable film of 1992 at Disney. She was also part of Dick Scott Entertainment and reported to VP in world wide management and publicity of recording artists as well as international tour support.
